Artist Tip: Be Awesome!!

Posted by on May 27, 2013 in Opinion, Tutorials | 4 comments

Sounds like a rather simple tip in all respects, but sometimes the simplest things can also be the hardest.

Speaking to young artists who have just started out, or are just on the cusp of beginning there is a similar theme going on between all of them and that is an issue with self confidence.
However, it is also well established artists who go through this time and time again.
So my tip of the day is to go forth with confidence!
No one will believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself first πŸ˜‰

Believe me, it can be tough. Sometimes one can fall into the trap of seeing fellow artists as competitors instead of inspiration. Or perhaps they seem to have garnered so much attention you feel you can never make it to that level. That’s when you should tell that voice in your head to politely (or otherwise) shut up πŸ˜‰

That’s the nature of talent, it can be vast wonderful and inspiring! The only way it can negatively impact you is if you let it.

What I think, beyond anything else, is the pitfall from keeping someone from being their ace number one confident self is a lack of direction.
I hear some of you groaning now!! But think about it, if you can’t see where you’re heading – or you’re skipping ahead to far it’ll be hard to put one foot in front of the other right?
One thing that has helped me has been making plans. Not big ones. No “master oil paints by next year”… be realistic.

Do you want a certain amount of followers on Facebook by the end of 2013? Do you need to build a website or make a sale of a painting? Do you want to learn a new technique or style to add into your work? Awesome! Write it down, get it out, and make a plan on just how to do each of these things. Take things one step at a time and you’ll most certainly start feeling awesome ^^
